FAQs

Is online public school the same as homeschooling?

No, online public school is different from traditional homeschooling in several key ways. While online students typically complete their lessons and assignments from home, the curriculum and instruction are provided by the school. That means students are taught by state-certified teachers in a group of their peers, just like in a brick-and-mortar public school. But since the instruction is delivered online, students have more opportunities for personalized learning and can more easily suit their schedule to their needs.

Is online homeschooling free?

Traditional homeschooling usually involves costs for curriculum and equipment. K12-powered online public schools, however, are tuition-free, though certain supplies and services such as computer equipment and internet provider fees may be required at the family's expense. While families do not pay tuition for a student to attend an online public school, common household items and office supplies, like printer ink and paper, are not provided. Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.

Is it good to homeschool your child?

A family should consider their specific needs and goals when deciding the right education option for their student. While some families opt for traditional brick-and-mortar schools, some prefer the more active role of homeschooling, which requires a parent, guardian, or other trusted adult to select and teach the curriculum. Many families find that K12-powered online public schools are a valuable alternative — combining the benefits of public school, such as state-certified teachers and pre-selected curriculum, with the greater involvement and personalized learning that traditional homeschooling students enjoy.
