His father was a designer of electrical cabinets in Hughes Aircraft industry, and his mother worked as a school teacher. He has four siblings, and he was the second oldest.

During that he developed a 5C collet indexer to optimise the in-house productivity which reduced the number of men power and time in product development.
Haas 5C collet indexer proved to be a masterstroke and was very warmly welcomed by the machining industries. This led to the foundation of Haas Automation, Inc. in 1983. They started with four employees in a 465 square meter area of land. With his hard work soon, Haas Automation began to increase.
In the year 1992, increase in demand made Hass decided to move his industry to a bigger facility in Chatsworth, California in 1992.
