Gene Haas was born on 12th of November, 1952 in Youngstown, Ohio. When Gene was young, his father, along with his family moved to Los Angeles. His father was a designer of electrical cabinets in Hughes Aircraft industry, and his mother worked as a school teacher. He has four siblings, and he was the second oldest.

Haas 5C collet indexer proved to be a masterstroke and was very warmly welcomed by the machining industries. This led to the foundation of Haas Automation, Inc. in 1983. They started with four employees in a 465 square meter area of land. With his hard work soon, Haas Automation began to increase.

In the year 1992, increase in demand made Hass decided to move his industry to a bigger facility in Chatsworth, California in 1992. Then again in 1997, they shifted to an even bigger facility in Oxnard, California, for the same reason.
